Webinar and Training Tips for Organizers and Software Review

The Organizer:

  • Disable or close all applications that use the internet or slow your machine. Like:
    • Outlook
    • Jing
    • Dropbox / Google Drive
    • Virus Scanner
  • Better to use a direct cable than wireless
  • Have THE BEST speakers and headset available and test them!  I use FREETALK headset and love it!
  • It is a good idea to have another laptop/tablet to log on as a user to see their view and hear their sound
  • If you have a large monitor do NOT use it in full screen if you are training on Microsoft.  People on the other end only see tiny boxes and can't see the words.

  • Anymeeting - currently use this software as it is good and free.  I don't really see the point of ad-free when they still advertise so I no longer pay for the service and just use thier free version.

    • Their training for selling has no ablitity to show folders to group trainings

Meeting Burner (Review of Software)

One of the reasons I chose to use MeetingBurner is that it had the ability to record.  Have you ever tried to record with GoTo (Citrix) products?  Nightmarish.

I must have spent 2 full days over a month testing this product.

COST:  It cost me a lot ( my reputation, paying  $$ for someone to be there to train)  but it actually is FREE

PRO's

  • If you are just using to record with very few attendees it works
  • If you only have a few attendees it works.

 

CONS

  • no support other than email which isn't good if you have issues WHILE hosting a session.
  • No real tutorials or training for you or attendees, though I did up this which they forwarded to their users.
  • It isn't clear how to do allot of things.  Would you know that you HAVE to dial into Skype in order to use the record option?  NO!
  • If you say you want to just show OUTLOOK, for example, and you open up a new email it shows grey because now you have to click and say show the email page. 
  • If they attendees say full screen the mouse then doesn't keep up.  I also reported that and they said it was a setting, which I changed and still didn't work.

 

ISSUES

I had 18 people attending a webinar on Nov 1 and it was a complete disaster

  • Notifications:Never sent emails to users prior
  • Users couldn’t hear because of Skype where CITRIX Goto you don’t have to use. Have to use Skype if recording
  • Initial signup tells them only about conference and HOST information
  • Someone signed in a ME! That could have been part of the issue but I had reported that to them weeks ago that when an attendee says to add to Calendar it has the HOST information, it shouldn't.
  • They couldn’t hear so dialed in causing issues like they could talk ( they were told not to and I didn’t know the command to mute)
  • Some said the audio was horrible via the listen "feature"
  • Some could hear but see a white screen

 

 

OVERALL

I wouldn't touch this software again if you are using it for group sessions.  One on One it seems to work ok.  Though we had some issues testing initially as well.  Had to keep logging on and off for it to eventually work.

When you click on the SKYPE icon on the left when you are in the meeting.  SKYPE comes up and it will dial and then ask you to enter the code.  SImilareto below but you can't find the dialpad on SKYPE?   In the SKYPE menu click on Call and View Dialpad to enter.  Now the call is FREE!

Travelling away from home? It might cost you $17 grand if you aren't careful!

WiFi - USE IT!

If you have a phone that has WiFi you should definitely take advantage of this great cost savings feature!  Almost every cafe, restaurant or hotel has Wi-Fi.  Most are free and some are paid services.   So go grab a coffee and a muffin and happily work away for free using someone else's network.  How cool is that?   Now Wifi generally will only allow you to use your data portion: email, bbm, pin, browse, etc...  Not Voice.  Though that isn't totally true as some devices have the right chipset to be able to use VOIP but that is another article.

Skype and Phone Cards

Skype is a great and free if the other person has it  (Skype to Skype). For a quick call when not online, it’s usually far cheaper to use a calling card and a payphone, especially in Latin America. i.e.  Mexican payphone costs about 50 cents a minute to the US and using your cell phone without an add-on plan will cost at least 3 x as much. Using your calling card generally cost much less per minute but hotels usually charge $1 to $2 dollars per call on top of the per minute fee, so find out if that equates to savings in your case!

SIM Card Swaps

If you are a talker and need to make alot of calls purchase a SIM card when you arrive at a new destination.  (Usually they even have them at the airport).  Just swap your SIM card (that is the white small card in your phone) and pay their local rates.  Once your minutes are expired you can reload them almost anywhere.

Phone and Blackberry Rentals

Did you know you can rent a phone?  One place is  Travelcell (www.travelcell.com). You pay only for the minutes you use and sometimes incoming  calls are free.  Usually outgoing calls are the same or  lower than what your own carrier charges.

CALL YOUR CARRIER

I cannot stress this enough.  Before you go on any trip.  Please, Please, Please, call your carrier.  Ask about their add on plans.  Even if you are going to the states.   Generally I use WiFi where ever I go but the last 3 day trip to the USA I thought I would pretend to be a normal user, I know...very hard.  ha ha and used my phone, browsed the internet, used the mapping feature and my phone bill was $130 more that normal.  Imagine if I was there a week or if I was in Europe?  Yikes.  I have personally had clients come back after a trip with $400, $2500 and $17000 dollar bills!  There are ways to mitigate these costs.
