How did Swirl Solutions start?

Generally these sections are done in the third person but written by that person.    So I figured I would write this by me, for you.

My name is Darci LaRocque and I am the proud founder of Swirl Solutions.  Prior to forming this company in 2007 I worked in Information Technology for over 14 years. I had a defining moment years prior when my mother, who was a nurse, called me one night in tears because the IT department was making her learn a new technology with little regard for actually training her.  My ah ha moment was "Oh my goodness, 'we' are doing THAT to people?"  It broke my heart to know that I might be responsible for handing off a device, an application, with little to no training to end users and they felt THAT way.  No more! I vowed.  So from that day on whenever I had the ability to make absolutely sure the end user was OK with what "we" did, I was on it!  

Have you ever been given new hardware or software with little to no training? It drove me crazy and I always felt for the troubled end users who struggled.

When wireless technology came about I also saw a huge gap and decided to jump from a cushy government job with a fantastic pension into the world of self employment. Crazy, I know!   I wanted to be able to change the world and provide you with the solutions you so desperately wanted.   I believe education is key to a positive return on investment and cost savings, but more importantly, a happy YOU!   I love taking scary technology and making it your best friend. Go ahead and ask questions like you are 5 years old and were just plain curious.

At Swirl Solutions no question is silly because someone, somewhere is thinking about the same thing as you.

What did you do in Government?

I really had a variety of roles there from support to looking after Microsoft Exchange, Novell and BlackBerry Enterprise Servers to a year and  half long project training end users from GroupWise to Outlook.  Yes, the government arm I worked in had that many staff that it took 1.5 years!     When I looked after servers, though I was good at it, it really wasn't "my thing".   I really like people and helping them and if I never have to see another server in my life, I am ok with that.  ha ha.   Eventually when I took on a role for a project testing wireless devices I found my passion, both in training and cool and ever changing technology!  Wow, I mean, things change daily right?  How on earth is the average person to keep up?  Good think I like it and that is where I found my niche.   Adding other training into the fold was just a natural progression and now I have other passionate trainers to help with Apple and Microsoft products as well as partners to help with cutting your bills!

What's with the name Swirl Solutions?

Have you ever had to name a company?  It is a tough decision because you are stuck with it and it is hard to change it once you are branded as that name.  I have learned so much since 2007 and typically it was over a glass of wine with friends.  We bashed names around, brainstormed and had 5 names picked out.   I went down to register my brand new company with the best name and forgot the sheet at home!   I called all the girls and the only one everyone could remember was Swirl Solutions.  How come?   If you have met me I have swirly curly hair!
